Alexandra Kushnir

Rock Mechanics of Volcanic Systems

Alexandra has a background in geophysical remote sensing. Her BSc Honours thesis focused on discrimination of closely spaced unexploded ordinances (UXOs) buried in the subsurface using magnetic survey data. She worked for two years as a consulting geophysicist, primarily for mining and geotechnical projects.

Her current work is focused on establishing a system in the VPL and CESL for measuring P- and S-wave velocities in for the characterization of volcanic rocks. Her research interests are focused on the mechanisms by which volcanic rocks deform and how this is reflected in the behaviour of volcanic systems.

Education:
  • BSc Honours Geophysics, University of British Columbia, BC, Canada.
Bio:

Alexandra has an intense love of discovering new places and traveling around the world. Her most recent hobbies include rediscovering her lack of skiing talent and, at all costs, avoiding precipitous drops off snow covered slopes. We’ll see what the upcoming summer has in store for her…
